The use of physical or restrictive intervention in educational settings and children’s services
We aim to promote the use of effective intervention strategies in its work with children and young people. In some contexts and situations it is recognised that there are a very small number of children and young people for whom physical and restrictive intervention is likely to form part of the range of strategies necessary to meet their needs, to ensure their safety and the safety of others.
This guidance sets out a framework that uses a variety of approaches to address challenging behaviour. It emphasises the importance of adults having the skills and confidence to maintain control of any situation through calm, positive actions, communication at all times and offering clear options.
Local Authority Services are required to use this guidance, and other services in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole are encouraged to adopt it.
