What we do

How we assess the risks, plans, procedures and information required for a co-ordinated response. 

We are responsible for planning a wide variety of potential incidents, disruptions and emergencies that could affect you and the services we provide.

By assessing the risks to Poole and working closely with colleagues and partner agencies, we can provide the plans, procedures and information required for a co-ordinated response.

This can help reduce the effects of any disruptive challenges occurring in Poole, Dorset or Bournemouth, allowing our services to continue as much as possible.

The Civil Contingencies Act 2004

The Civil Contingencies Act 2004 places statutory duties on us to:

  • assess the likely risk of emergencies occurring and use this to put in place emergency plans
  • put in place business continuity management arrangements
  • put in place arrangements to make information available to the public about civil protection matters and maintain arrangements to warn, inform and advise the public in the event of an emergency
  • co-operate and share information with other local responders such as fire, police, ambulance and other local authorities to enhance co-ordination
  • provide advice and assistance to businesses and voluntary organisations about business continuity management
