Poole Maritime Festival 2017

Poole will be hosting the prestigious European Maritime Day in May 2017, one of the largest maritime events in Europe. The event is hosted annually across Europe and this will be the first time this event has been held in the UK.

This two day conference, which will be held at Poole Lighthouse on 18-19 May 2017, is expected to attract over a thousand of the most influential people across Europe involved in progressing maritime policy such as industry leaders, policy makers including ministers, EU Commissioners, MPs and MEPs, academics and scientists.

This event encompasses Poole Maritime Festival a week long event held between 15 and 21 May 2017, which aims to encourage people of all ages and communities to engage with Poole and Dorset’s maritime heritage and environment. The Poole Maritime Festival not only incorporates the flagship European Maritime Day conference, but business activities such as foreign investment and business growth day supported by UKTI, and the popular Poole Harbour Boat show organised by Poole Harbour Commissioners.

Hosting European Maritime Day is a unique opportunity for Poole and Dorset to achieve international attention from the marine community as well as the local community benefiting from the family focused maritime festival.

Poole is a town and a community that is built on its maritime past and heritage. European Maritime Day brings the most important and influential people within the European maritime sector into the heart of Poole providing the opportunity for those people to take away an image of a coastal town and port that has a thriving, innovative and high-tech business offer that has attractive investment opportunities.

We want those visitors to understand the world class expertise and skills we have locally in researching and understanding our natural environment, particularly our harbour and seas and the contribution the university and colleges make to progressing aspects of European Maritime Policy concerned with environmental issues.

The main objective is to establish Poole’s maritime reputation, putting Poole on the maritime map whilst in the process giving something back to the community.
