Poole Local Plan

We are preparing a new local plan to replace our core strategy and other local plan documents. The Poole Local Plan, once completed, will set a new plan for Poole to meet needs and guide development to 2033.

We started work on the local plan in 2013 and have held a number of previous consultations, looking at the issues and options around how the towns development needs could be met by a new local plan for Poole.

Consultation on the Draft Plan

Following the further issues and options consultation in 2016, we have considered the feedback and prepared a draft plan known as the pre-submission draft.

We are publishing the draft plan for comment from 31 July to 22 September (8 weeks).

Consultation documents

There are also policies maps including:

These plans are supported by our evidence base.

Details of the consultation are set out in the statement of representations procedure and availability of documents.

Please submit your responses using the official response form (and if needed additional sheets). These responses will be passed to the inspector ahead of the upcoming examination.

As part of the consultation we are also seeking your views on a range of newly promoted sites that have been promoted for development in the last consultation. These sites are not allocated in the draft plan and we will pass on your views to the inspector for the examination. Please submit your responses on the newly promoted sites response form.

All responses should be submitted no later than 12 noon on 22 September 2017, preferably by email to planning@poole.gov.uk or by post to Poole Local Plan/CIL, Growth and Infrastructure, Borough of Poole, Civic Centre, Poole BH15 2RU.

We are currently consulting upon the Community Infrastructure Levy - draft charging schedule.

Next steps

Following this public participation, we will consider if further changes need to be made to the plan before submitting the plan and associated representations to an independent inspector. The inspector will hold a public examination towards the end of 2017/early 2018. We expect the examination to be resolved by Spring 2018, allowing us to adopt the local plan. Upon adoption, the plan will replace all of the current statutory local planning documents.

The timetable is as follows:

  • pre-submission publication of draft plan: July-September 2017

  • submission to Secretary of State: Autumn 2017

  • examination in public: Autumn/Winter 2017

  • adoption: Spring 2018.

These plans are supported by our evidence base.
