Library charges

Overdue charges for books borrowed by adults

Charges are per item and are payable on all overdue books borrowed on an adult card, whether they are adult or children's books

  • charge per item - 20p per day
  • maximum charge - £10     

Overdue charges for books borrowed by children

We do not charge for overdue books borrowed on a child's card but you must return or renew them by the due date to avoid receiving formal overdue letters. Letters are sent out at the beginning of weeks 2 and 5.

Late or incomplete return of play or music sets incurs a charge of £10 plus the replacement cost.

Courtesy reminders by email

To help you manage your library account, you can sign up for emails to alert you that items on loan will soon be due for return. To sign up for email alerts please contact the library on 01202 262424, in person at any library or by emailing libraries@poole.gov.uk

Replacement charges for lost items

Replacement charge is the current listed price on Amazon if the item is still available to purchase. If not, we charge:

  • baby board books - No charge
  • teen / children’s books - £4    
  • adult fiction / large print books - £7        

  • adult non-fiction books - £10

  • CDs - £8.50        

  • DVDs: single / box-set - £12 / £24            

  • audiobooks: child / adult - £8 / £30 

Lost membership cards

  • Adult - £2

  • Teen / Child - £1

DVD, Blu-Ray, CD & audiobook hire

Music and film titles are available for hire and are charged as follows:

  • DVDs/Blu-Ray: from £1.50 to £2.50 per week

  • DVD box-sets: 3 discs or more: from £2.50 to £3.50 per week
    (If you want them longer, just pay the extra hire charge when you bring them back) 

  • CDs: from £1 per week

  • audiobook CDs full-length (unabridged): £1.50 per 3 weeks (free for people with reading difficulties)  

We also have audiobooks that you can download for free.

Click and Collect

You can reserve children DVDs and children and teenage books held in any Libraries West Libraries for free. All other items will incur the following charges:

  • adult fiction including large print - £1

  • adult non-fiction including large print- £1

  • DVDs/Blu-Rays/CDs/audiobooks - £1

  • reading groups - £1 per set of 8 items

Titles borrowed from another library service or the British Library have a charge of £10.00 per title. 

Play and music sets can be reserved from £5 per set. 

Photocopying

A4 black and white, and colour copying is now available in all libraries. A3 black and white, and colour copying is only available at Poole Central Library and Broadstone Library. The following charges apply:

  • black and white A4: 20p per copy

  • black and white A3 (Poole Central and Broadstone Libraries only): 40p per copy

  • colour A4: 50p per copy

  • colour A3 (Poole Central and Broadstone Libraries only): £1 per copy

  • double-sided printing is twice the price        

Scanning and computer printing

Printing from a computer or scanner is available in all libraries. A3 printing is only available at Broadstone Library. Documents can be scanned and printed in colour with the following charges:

  • black and white A4: 20p per copy

  • black and white (Broadstone Library only): 40p per copy

  • colour A4: 50p per copy        

  • colour A3 (Broadstone Library only): £1 per copy

  • double-sided printing is twice the price  

Laminating per copy

  • A4 - £1

  • A3 - £2

Outgoing faxes (at Poole Central Library only)

For faxes within the UK, the first page is charged at  £1; subsequent pages are 50p each.

For faxes within the EU, the first page is charged at  £2.50; subsequent pages are £1 each.

For faxes to the rest of the World, the first page is charged at £4; subsequent pages are £1 each.

Incoming faxes (at Poole Central Library only)

The fax number at Poole Central Library is 01202 262442. Received faxes are charged at  £1 per page. We can notify you of an arrival for 50p per fax.
