What is Bookstart?

Bookstart is a scheme to provide free book packs for Pre-school children.  Bookstart Baby packs are gifted by health professionals and Bookstart Treasure packs by early years providers.

Bookstart promotes a lifelong love of books and is based on the principle that children in the UK should enjoy and benefit from books as early as possible.

Bookstart Bear Club

The Bookstart Bear Club is free to join and open to all pre-school children using Poole Libraries.  Parents/carers can register their child/children by visiting any Poole library.

Upon registering, children will receive a Bear Club passport and their first paw print stamp.  After 6 paw prints they will receive a certificate to take home and there are 10 certificates to collect.  The 10th certificate has an extra special gold design.

Bookshine: for children who are deaf

If your child is deaf you can ask for a free Bookshine pack, specially created for babies and young children aged 0 to 4.

Booktouch: for children who have a visual impairment

If your child is blind or partially sighted you can ask for a free Booktouch pack, specially created for babies and children aged 0 to 4.

If your child has not received a Baby pack by their 4 month health check or a Treasure pack before leaving their early years setting contact the Bookstart Coordinator on 01202 262455.
