Supported Accommodation Service - Single People applying for Supported Housing
What is it?
This is a scheme which aims to match single people aged between 16 and 64 years old seeking supported housing with the supported accommodation available in Poole.
Who is it for?
Supported housing is accommodation for people who are vulnerable in some way.
Residents are ‘supported’ in their home by paid staff. The housing can be a room in a shared house, a purpose built hostel or a self contained one bedroom flat. The accommodation is usually provided by a housing association although some private companies also offer this type of housing. These organisations are called providers.
Who can be referred?
Applicants with a need for housing related support can apply. Their needs will be assessed by a Housing Advisor and if they require supported housing they will join the list of those waiting for supported accommodation. Applicants must be in need of support such as help with managing their finances, paying rent, cooking, applying for benefits, filling out forms, or independent living skills.
Who can refer?
Social Workers, Care Managers, Probation workers and other professionals.
If you are the client and would like to be referred, please discuss this with your support worker or any professional you are involved with. If you do not have one, please contact us on 01202 633804 and we can discuss your housing options. Further information on your options can be found here.
If you are the professional, please contact a Housing Advisor on 01202 633804 to discuss your clients situation and needs. If it is determined that supported housing is the most appropriate option, you will be sent the referral form to complete and return.
What happens to a referral?
When the service receives the referral it will be assessed using a points system to score the support needs of the applicant. This will also indicate the schemes most suitable for the applicant. The applicant will join the list of those waiting for supported accommodation.
