As part of the Welfare Reform programme, the government is introducing a number of major changes to Housing Benefit and Council Tax discounts and reduction schemes.
Amendment to the room requirement considerations for households where a child requires their own bedroom.
See our Local Housing Allowance page for further information.
Universal Credit, introduced on 29.04.13 in Manchester, has started its phased roll-out with some London councils trialling the scheme.
Although it has not yet been launched in Poole, please note that this is a significant benefit change, and it is very important that you are aware of the potential changes that will affect you. See this leaflet for more details.
You can also find details about how Universal Credit will help towards housing costs in this leaflet.
The Department for Work and Pensions have provided a Personal Planner which will show you what you need to do to be ready for Universal Credit.
The Money Advice Service has further information about Universal Credit, including budgeting advice, help with finding a bank account and a budget planner.
A limit will now be put on the total amount of benefit that most people aged 16 to 64 can get. This is called a ‘benefit cap’. The Borough of Poole introduced this on 15.07.13.
We advise that you check now to see if your benefits will be capped if you apply.
Removal of the Spare Room Subsidy
Since April 2013 there have been new rules in Housing Benefit for working-age people living in social housing. Pensioners aren’t affected by this change.
Under the new rules you will receive Housing Benefit based on the number of people in your household and the size of your accommodation.
For further information about this change and how it could affect you please see this leaflet. Alternatively please contact us for further details.
