Christmas recycling and refuse collection

Christmas bin collections

We will operate bin collection services as normal up to and including Friday 23 December.

We will not operate collection services on:

  • Christmas Day
  • Boxing Day
  • Bank holiday Monday 2 January 2017.

We have published temporary day changes for the Christmas period in new collection calendars sent to all households.

Check your collection calendar to find out when you should put out your black refuse bin and blue recycling bin.

Please make sure your bin is out by 6am on your collection day.

All collection days will move one day later than normal.

This makes sure you continue to receive a fortnightly service.

We will return to normal collection dates as of Monday 9 January 2017.

We will take extra recycling with your first collection after Christmas. Please do not put additional cardboard recycling out until the day of collection to avoid it getting wet.

Nuffield Household Waste Recycling Centre (tip)

You can dispose of extra household waste at the Nuffield Household Waste Recycling Centre which is open every day except:

  • Christmas Day
  • Boxing Day
  • New Year's Day.

Opening hours are 9am to 4pm every day.

Separate bays will be available for blue and black bin waste.

The normal access, vehicle and proof of residency restrictions apply.

Wrapping paper, Christmas cards and sweet tins

Don’t forget to recycle your wrapping paper, Christmas cards and sweet tins in your blue bin once all the festivities are over.

Wrapping paper can be recycled in your blue bin, providing it is paper based (not plastic or foil - check to see if it tears like paper) and is mostly free from sticky tape.

Did you know you can recycle all these materials in your blue recycling bin?

  • aluminium foil - mince pie case, sweet wrappers
  • cardboard – mince pie boxes
  • paper - wrapping paper
  • food and drink cartons - juice or milk cartons
  • plastic bottles – party drink bottles
  • plastic food packaging - yoghurt pots
  • cans – biscuit or sweets tins and drinks cans
  • glass - cranberry sauce jars.

Christmas tree recycling

You can take your Christmas trees to Upton Country Park between:

  • Tuesday 27 December 2016 and Monday 9 January 2017.

You can recycle your tree for free at Nuffield Household Waste Recycling Centre (tip).

Dorset's disability charity Diverse Abilities, are organising a Christmas tree collection service.

Visit Diverse Abilities website to find out how to make a donation to the charity (minimum £5) for your tree to be collected by volunteers.
