From Monday 1 August 2016 vans, pick-ups and commercial vehicles will no longer be able to access Millhams without a valid permit.
Existing Millhams permits will no longer be valid and Bournemouth residents who currently hold a van permit will need to reapply.

New van permit scheme
From Monday 18 July you will be able to apply for a new van permit on this page.
All current permits will expire on Wednesday 31 August 2016.
The new van permit scheme will remain free. It allows van or pick-up users to visit Millhams six times per year. The permit will only be provided to Bournemouth households who have no other vehicle.

In the meantime, if your household's only vehicle is a van and you want to dispose of household waste, you can do that once for free.
You then need to get a current permit, otherwise you will be charged commercial waste fees.
You can use your van to dispose of waste at Millhams without a permit by visiting the commercial weighbridge and paying the commercial rate.
Why the scheme is being introduced
The new van permit scheme has been introduced to the reduce the amount of commercial waste that is brought to Millhams for free disposal.
Legally, commercial organisations should pay to dispose of their waste. Currently, Bournemouth tax payers cover the cost when commercial waste is disposed at Millhams without payment.
Many local authorities across the country use this method of controlling waste, including Dorset Waste Partnership, Borough of Poole, Cambridge, Kent and Hampshire County Councils.
Blue Badge holders
If you are disabled and your van or pick-up has been modified for your needs, then you can continue to dispose of your household waste as normal without a permit, as long as your vehicle is under 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight and you show your Blue Badge to site staff.
If you have hired a van from a hire company, you can use the site to dispose of your household waste if:
- you have hired a van for a period of three days or less
- the van weighs less than 3.5 tonnes
- you have a copy of the hire agreement
- you have proof of Bournemouth residency.
Please note you will have to show the hire agreement to site staff.
