General information about the garden waste service

Green bin collection dates

You can check when your bin day is on our recycling, refuse and garden waste collection dates page.

Garden waste is not to be disposed of in your black bin.

When will I receive my bin/sticker?

If you are new to the Garden Waste Collection Service and register:

A) Between October and January your bin will be delivered in time for the start of the service in February

B) Between February and September your bin will be delivered within 2 weeks of your registration date.

An information pack containing a bin sticker, a collection calendar and a copy of the terms and conditions will be posted to you in time for the start of the service.

Please ensure your sticker is put on your bin to ensure the collection crews empty it.

Garden Waste collections start date

The 2017 service starts on the 13 February 2017 and the first collection from your property will be within 2 weeks of this date. The last collection is on 15 December 2017.

Please always put the bin out by 6:00am, it will be emptied fortnightly on the same day and the service operates from February until December. 

Please note collections often occur in the evening and may continue until 11:00pm.

Green bin size

The bins are 240 litres, with approximate dimensions 1063mm high, 720mm wide, 560mm deep.

Additional green bins

If you have already registered and wish to have an additional bin(s), please call us on 01202 261700.

Moving into a house which already has a green bin

If the green bin has a valid sticker on it, then this bin has been paid for by the previous owners and you can therefore continue using the service for the rest of the year.

If the bin does not have a valid sticker on it, then you will need to register for the service.

Missing green bin

Check that your green bin is not close by or at a neighbour’s house. If you cannot find your bin, then report this to our Customer Services Team on 01202 261700 and we will get a replacement bin delivered in a fortnight.

What if I no longer require the service?

If you no longer require the garden waste service you will need to let us know. Please use either; the online form or you can telephone us on 01202 261700. Please be prepared to wait as the lines may be busy. There are no refunds or part refunds for the cancellation of the service part way through the year.

What happens to the garden waste when it has been collected?

Once collected, the garden waste becomes the property of the Borough of Poole. It is then sent to Eco Sustainable Solutions Ltd in Hurn, a composting facility where it is turned into a soil improver.
