Secondary School Places in Poole
Over the decade from 2001 to 2011 there was a significant increase in the number of births in Poole. This resulted in a need for more Primary school places. Since 2009 the council has worked with schools to increase the number of Infant, Junior and Primary school places through the expansion of existing schools and the establishment of a new Junior school.
The number of Secondary age children in Poole has started to increase as these children reach Secondary school age. By September 2019 we will need more school places in Year 7 and therefore there is now a need to create more Secondary places in the town.
The council has worked in partnership with Poole Secondary schools, local dioceses, governing bodies and academy trusts to consider the best way to secure the additional places that are needed. Together we want to provide additional Secondary school places over the period 2019 to 2025 through the expansion of existing schools.
United Learning’s Proposal to Expand Carter Community School
It is therefore proposed that Carter Community School should expand by two forms of entry (60 places in each year group) from September 2019.
As Carter Community School is an academy, sponsored by the United Learning academy trust, the decision on this proposal will be made by the Regional Schools Commissioner on behalf of the Secretary of State for Education.
United Learning is required to consult with all those who could be affected by the proposed change and confirm that the proposal takes account of the responses received when it puts forward the business case for change to the Regional Schools Commissioner.
As the proposal to expand Carter Community School is central to the agreed strategy for securing additional Secondary school places in Poole, it has been agreed that the council should lead the consultation.
We are consulting with:
- parents and carers of pupils at all Poole schools
- parents and carers of children who use Poole Early Years settings
- neighbouring Local Authorities
- local Dioceses
- anyone else who has an interest in this issue.
We would like your views on the proposal to expand Carter Community School by two forms of entry (60 places in each year group).
If you would like a paper copy of the consultation document, please contact Rachel Folley on 01202 633507 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
We would encourage you to attend a public meeting to hear more about the proposal and to have an opportunity to ask questions about it. The meeting details are shown below.

- Thursday 13 October, 6.30pm - 7.30pm, Carter Community School
