2014 marks 100 years since the start of World War 1.
Britain joined the war on 4 August 1914 and fighting continued until 11 November 1918. Few people will forget the announcement from the Foreign Office:
‘His Majesty’s Government, has declared to the German Government, that a state of war exists between Great Britain and Germany as from 11pm on 4 August’.
World War 1 was a turning point in world history, claiming the lives of over 16 million people worldwide. Most people were affected by the war in some way or another.
